On Celebrating

(5-16-21)

It is like icing on the cake
this rain, which slides down
the terra-cotta shingles
forming
great globs and rivulets of
refreshing sweetness
which also glaze over every inch
of this beautiful city,
and these beautiful plains
inviting the inhabitants
to wake, rejoice
and partake in
the simplest of pleasures
on a cool grey Sunday morning
which has suddenly appeared from behind
a May evening’s humid curtain.
Eager thunder claps heard above
emanate from an audience anticipating
the first bite.
