Critical Infrastructure

Have you ever noticed the way roadside curbs look in some parts of town?
The parts of town that are well-trafficked?
Craggy, dented,
Weathered and worn, a few chips here and there.
Curbs impacted by neglect,
especially
when people are not looking close
when people have become too distracted
when people do not have time

And have you ever noticed the faces of the homeless who beg alongside those same roadside curbs?
A bit craggy with deep creases from squinting in the sun.
Some dents, and well-weathered too, with a few chips in the teeth.
But they stand.
Or sit.
Resolutely.
Each day, asking in unison with the curbs.

“Please see me.”
